Semifinalists of Timur Bekmambetov’s screenplay competition have been chosen

Names of screenplay competition participants who had been qualified for semifinal were announced on May 25 at 12.00 a.m. in the metropolitan movie theater Arsenal during the press conference dedicated to the presentation of Astana International Action Film Festival.

 

As of now, 10 semifinalists from Kazakhstan have been chosen to take part in final selection.

Names of semifinalists from Kazakhstan and submitted screenplays are as follows:

 

Abat Nagmet – “Almaarsasan Maiden”

Rustam Mukhit – “Crossing the line”

Galiya Baizhanova – “While Everybody at home”

Yerzhan Yessimkhanov – “Territory 17”

Vitaliy Kistanov – “Day of the Contract”

Dmitry Chernobay – “Aqua OPS: Nuclear Armageddon”

Bahtiyor Kadirov – “Beyond one Day”

Elman Suleimanov – “When the Poppies Bloom”

Aituar Nugmetullin – “Moment”

Alexander Kassymbayev – “The Asclepius”

 

Six semifinalists from other countries were also chosen to take part in the final competitive selection.

Names of the semifinalists from other countries and submitted screenplays are as follows:

3. Russel Davidson, “Sewer”, UK

4. Grigory Rakovsky – “Al Dermen” and the second project “Alien Winners”, Russia Grigory Rakofsky, “Al and E.T.”, Russia

5. Lachezar & Ivo Tontatchev, “Gardens of Destruction”, Bulgaria

6. Sergey Evstigneyev, “Our Mutants”, Russia.

 

Semifinalists should sign an agreement of further participation in the Competition and send a full version of the screenplay in English to the organizers.

 

On May 1, 2011, submission of applications for participation in the screenplay competition in Kazakhstan was finished. By this time, the competition headquarters had received about 650 letters; 132 applications were shortlisted and 98 of them fully conformed to the organizers’ requirements.

 

This year screenwriters from Kazakhstan, Russia, USA, Great Britain, Australia, Bulgaria, Finland and Japan participated in the screenplay competition. The winner will be awarded 10,000 USD and an opportunity of developing the project together with the production company of Timur Bekmambetov.

 

Moreover, online video conference New Orleans (USA) – Astana (Kazakhstan) was organized during the press conference between the President of Astana International Action Film Festival Timur Bekmambetov and representatives of mass media who were present at the event. In his talk to the audience, the President of the Festival emphasized the importance of young talent development and support.
